Yes, almost every variant of gunpla is available on High
Grade. Bandai always released the HG first, then the other. There are so many
HG categories based on the series. There are HGAC, HGAW, HGBF, HGCC, HGUC and
many more. Some people said that the HGUC has different kind of plastic than the other. Some old kits also reproduced in this line like Wing and Wing Zero.
In the HGAC line, Wing get improvements and new mechanism as other newer HG. HGBF
has a good representation from the anime. I can say that the HGBF series is
better to be bought rather than the MG because in the anime, the character used
the HG sized gunpla. So almost everything on the anime exists in this line.
Simple Assembly
HG kits are the basic gunpla scale. HG kits do not need so
much effort to work with. The construction is relatively simple and easy to
understand. There is no inner frame like MG kits so it is simpler. The joints
and mechanism also very simple. HG kits usually implement the same polycaps joints although the newer ones also used plastic joints. That makes the
assemble and the disassemble process become much easier. With this condition you
can assembly one HG kit only in 3 hours. Of course if we compare the HG with
SD, the SD is the simplest one. Only 3 small runners on SD while HG has 3-5
runners usually.
Mechanism and Gimmick
Nowadays HG kits have what the MG kits have, starts from the
leg armor separation until the double joints mechanism. We can see the progress
how the one jointed elbow grows into double jointed, rotation only-hand into
wrist jointed hand, and open hatch gimmick on some armors. That’s so awesome.
And the mechanism is still simple to build. And don’t forget that the
accessories and weaponry also have some gimmicks. The Exia’s GN Sword, Wing
Zero’s Twin Buster Rifle, Destiny’s Wing of Light, Nu’s Fin Funnels, and many
more. They have the same gimmicks as the MG’s.
Easily Customized
Well, customization is the interesting part in gunpla. We
can express our creativity to build the best gunpla. This customization can be
done by some ways: kitbash, repaint and detailing. Kitbash is a customization
method by mixing other kits’ parts into one kit. In HG, kitbash can be done
easily without modification. Usually HG comes with the similar joints system,
similar polycaps and similar placement of pegs. So when we want to change the
lower leg of one kit with the others’, we can easily replace the part. Or if we
want to use other kit’s beam saber effect, we can just look at the type of the
hole that the beam saber handle has. Very simple and efficient. Repainting HG
kits is relatively simple. We can easily take off the parts without
disassembling so many parts. The time used to paint also shorter because it has
less parts compared to MG. Of course, we can save the paint. The detailing
process like using plaplate or scribing panel lines also easier. So overall
modification will be easier in HG kits with the universality.
So, with those reasons, most people always choose HG to
enter gunpla world. Beginner can easily understand how to build it and they can
choose anything they like in the anime series. Whatever they want can be done
easily in this grade. Even the novice and professional builder love to choose
HG to be the masterpiece. Most of them also recommend a beginner to start with
HG. The most important thing when building a HG is the excitement. So start to
choose your gunpla and welcome to the gunpla world. :)
